Get to Know This Role
The Plant Utilities Department's mission is to provide, maintain, and support high-quality water, chemicals, and CIP (Clean-In Place) capability for the successful production of Sierra Nevada's world-class beer. The Plant Utilities Supervisor provides leadership, guidance, and administrative support to the Plant Utilities team to allow the team to accomplish its goals and provide exceptional service to the brewery.

What You Will Do
  • Assumes primary responsibility for quality, effectiveness, reliability, and regulatory compliance in potable and process water systems, cooling tower and boiler water systems, wastewater treatment, chemical supply and deliver, CIP system operation and effectiveness systems and equipment maintenance, and ongoing technical and safety training.
  • Drives continuous improvement efforts by setting and following up on expectations for staff productivity, data collection and analysis, system and equipment reliability and effectiveness, team Subject Matter Expert (SME) activities, intra- and interdepartmental communications and customer service.
  • Manages staff work assignments, including daily/weekly activities as well as special technical assignments and assignments to cross-functional and project teams.
  • Supervises direct reports by providing effective performance management services and by providing and promoting professional and personal developmental opportunities.
  • Manages the Plant Utilities SOP and training program. Leads or assigns problem solving activities as needed.
  • Manages department staffing and schedules.
  • In coordination with the Technical Services Manager, develops and executes department standards and expectations, tactical goals, and strategic initiatives.
  • Maintains an effective level of knowledge of team activities and tasks to enhance supervisory effectiveness and provide backup as necessary.
  • Maintains and serves as point of contact for Asheville Water for domestic water and Metropolitan Sewerage District for wastewater.
  • Provides input and guidance in preparation and administration of annual operating budget for areas supervised.

Please Apply if You Have
  • 3 years' experience in utilities or a manufacturing production environment required. 
  • 1 year supervisory or management experience required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple departments
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite
  • Knowledge of production processes and quality control
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater processes
  • General mechanical and technical aptitude
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to effectively coordinate widely varying work assignments among staff.
  • Well developed leadership and customer service skills
