Overview
The Director, Route Optimization exemplifies Breakthru Beverage values in leading the organization to cutting-edge solutions that support the customer and the delivery of routing solutions. The Director Route Optimization develops the strategy and design then implements market-focused processes and initiatives to maximize routing performance across all Breakthru Beverage markets. This role is responsible for delivering routing processes that meet transportation needs for consistent service, cost and safety while reducing variability across markets. This skilled collaborator builds strong relationships with regional VP’s and market leaders, aligning market-based stakeholder needs with cross-functional business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Develop and gain alignment for route strategies, including full market reroutes, driving improved service and consistency to BBG customers while reducing costs
- Partner with cross-functional teams, particularly sales, to model and optimize transportation and facility networks and cross docks, creating a cost-effective, high-performance delivery model
- Identify opportunities to maximize performance, develop process improvement plans and analyze potential growth enhancement & impacts
- Design and prioritize the implementation of routing plays to streamline transportation and improve performance, optimizing capacity and on-time performance
- Incorporate market and industry research, best practices benchmarking and market-specific constraints into routing improvement strategies, KPI’s, KPI tracking and into performance-improvement plans and tactics
- Update business process documentation, including workflow narratives and procedures
- Design and maintain the routing scorecard with specific metrics to ensure business objectives are measured and attained by all transportation/routing operations
- Work with local market and regional leaders of Operations using routing expertise and best practices
- Identify new tools/technology for step change improvement in daily routing & long term scenario modeling
- Promote a continuous improvement culture within the markets by helping with recruiting, retaining and developing world-class, diverse talent in the routing area
- Contribute to policies, processes and performance metrics designed to track the implementation and impact of routing improvement initiatives, including the documentation and escalation of market feedback on process and process deployment
- Implement ongoing routing excellence metrics and KPI performance improvement strategies across all markets
- Create a strong team
- Develop and mentor direct reports through communication, training and strong leadership
- Inspire the team through transparency and open dialog, modeling the BBG values
- Set performance expectations that drive sustainable, predictable business results
- Other duties, as assigned by the jobholder’s supervisor, may also be required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in logistics or supply chain management, business and/or equivalent training and work experience
- Minimum of 8 years’ progressive experience in business leadership, with a focus on routing strategy development and implementation
- Travel 50% to 75% of the time
- Demonstrated experience with implementation of large market reroute initiatives and projects, preferably in a similar industry
- Experience leading projects that required coordination across team boundaries in large, multi-function, cross-geographic organizations
- People management experience
- Ability to identify/establish, implement and share operational best practices & change management practices
- In depth knowledge transportation and routing leading practices and related performance metrics
- Advanced PC skills using MS Office and other various computer programs including presentation software
- Must be a results-oriented professional with verbal/written communication skills using diplomacy and discretion as well as customer service skills. Have the ability to influence peers and senior leadership
- Ability to multi-task, work independently and/or within a team, pay attention to detail and meet deadlines
- Analytic and Reporting skills
- Utilize sound judgement and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume, team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced routing or analytics training
- Experience in the beverage alcohol industry
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone
- Travel 50% to 75% of the time
