I.            Company Description and Environment.

Lost Province Brewing Company, LLC (LPBC), is a family-owned and operated business located in the High Country of North Carolina. Our business is comprised of a 10 bbl. brewery and restaurant, a 20 bbl. production site and taproom, and a second restaurant and taproom. Our breweries produce the finest quality traditional beer styles and innovative craft beers using novel ingredients and brewing techniques. We produce beers for our two restaurants and our taproom, self-distribute to over 200 wholesale accounts, and provide packaged beers for retail sales on site. We aim to maximize the quality and availability of our products and promote the long-term growth of LPBC. In 2022, we produced 1806 bbl.


Success for LPBC depends upon collaborative and collegial work among and between all members of the brewery staff. This means that all brewery staff must participate in all functions, duties, and tasks associated with brewery operations, as directed by the Brewery Manager and the Director of Brewing Operations. Brewers at LPBC are the most knowledgeable persons in the LPBC Organization regarding beer, beer styles, beer production method and especially the beers produced at LPBC. Participation in efforts to represent the LPBC brand in marketing, sales, and advertising efforts is a vital and necessary aspect of job duties for Brewers at LPBC. 


Brewers at LPBC must be hardworking, highly motivated, quality focused, safety driven, and team oriented. Based on a team concept of operations, the following list indicates the kinds of work that are expected to be performed by Brewers at LPBC. It is not definitive, and it is not necessarily complete. From time to time, Brewers may be asked to perform additional duties to promote the success and welfare of LPBC and its employees.


II.          Functions, Duties, and Tasks.

Supervision of other brewery staff to achieve brewery goals and directives.

Organizing brewing and production schedules.

Brewing beer, cellaring, kegging, canning and other packaging processes as needed.

Proper cleaning and sanitation processes; brewhouse, fermenters, brite tanks, kegs, etc.

Ensure equipment is set up, maintained, monitored and operated to allow for the efficient, safe and sanitary production of quality products.

Make sure the brewery is operating in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations.

Perform necessary or advisable QA/QC tests and procedures to produce the highest quality products.

Perform testing, and sensory evaluation of raw materials and finished products during all phases of beer production.

Maintain organization and inventories of grain, hops, yeast, and other brewing materials, assist with ordering.

Troubleshoot and repair brewhouse mechanical and infrastructure systems.

Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.

Monitor and promote safe workplace and sustainability practices.

Return tools and equipment to proper areas, cleaned and in good repair upon completion of task.

Faithfully represent LPBC brands at events and festivals as needed.

Assist with product distribution and delivery to outside entities.

Assist with development, production and dissemination of marketing and advertising pieces and campaigns.

Assist with the development of packaging labels for LPBC products.

Complete other tasks as needed or directed.




III.         Preferred Qualifications and job Requirements:

A degree or other training in fermentation science or a closely related field is preferred.

Prior experience as a Head Brewer is preferred.

A valid NC Driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Extensive knowledge and experience with most beer styles and extensive knowledge of the brewing process.

Ability to craft traditional and non-traditional beer recipes.

Understanding of individual ingredient characteristics and their impact on finished products.  

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, communication skills and documentation skills.

Great passion and enthusiasm for brewing craft beer, and the desire to produce award-winning beers.

Ability to troubleshoot/repair mechanical issues.

Ability to work well under pressure.

Ability to utilize and manage brewery production software, and computer skills in common applications. 

Ability and willingness to adapt to new processes/practices.

Ability to speak in front of large groups and lead tours.

Ability to work independently and unsupervised.

Ability to follow directions clearly and learn quickly.

Experience with safely using pallet jacks and lifters.

Able to lift heavy materials throughout the day (minimum 55 lbs.), able to move a 160 lb. keg.

Able to squat, stoop, bend, reach, twist, walk, and climb around brewery equipment.

Able to work with hazardous materials in a safe manner.

Able to work with alkaline and acidic chemicals without allergic reactions.

Able to work in hot, wet and/or humid conditions (nonweather), on wet floors, with wet equipment.


IV.         Salary and Benefits:

1.           Hourly position, rate dependent on experience.

2.           Accrued paid time off and sick leave for employees averaging > 32 hr./week (full time.)

3.           Subsidized Health Insurance for employees working > 32 hr./week.
